Bare-Metal Restore to a Drive of Different Size
Question
We are going to do a Bare-Metal Restore to a new drive. The drive size is different from the size of the original one. Will we be able to do a Bare-Metal Restore?
Solution
The only obstacle to a BMR of a volume is if the destination is smaller than the original.
| Notice To calculate a necessary volume size, consider your compression. Compression ratio for typical data sets is 2:1, so backup of 130 GB could easily become 260 GB after restore. See also: Disk Safe Compression. |
