Error VSS_E_WRITER_INFRASTRUCTURE during the last ansychronous operation

Question

During backups we are receiving error messages as follows:

Error VSS_E_WRITER_INFRASTRUCTURE during the last ansychronous operation.  The writer infrastructure is not operating properly.  Check that the Event Service and VSS have been started, and check for errors associated with those services in the error log.

Solution

Check that Volume Shadow Copy service is not disabled:

Start Control Panel Administrative Tools Services Volume Shadow Copy.
