Archive requires a license
Archive is a licensed feature introduced with the Server Backup Manager 6.4 release, contact R1Soft for help upgrading your current license to include Archive.

Corporate and regulatory requirements may require the archiving of data at certain intervals. For example, monthly or annually. In addition to your regular backups, Server Backup allows you to create archives of recovery point snapshots via AWS Glacier or FTP(S) with a separate retention policy.

Each Policy may have the Archive enabled and configured in accordance with your retention requirements. According to these options, an Archive is created once the policy runs. Archiving can be to snapshot on daily, weekly, or monthly schedule.   You can also choose a recovery point from the Recovery Points screen and send it to archive.

An Archive Point is a snapshot of a recovery point which is stored in another location for long-term data storage to provide further integrity and safe-keeping of data. The archive point can be copied to the local SBM and the copied recovery point supports all normal recovery point functionality. You can browse and restore your files as well as perform a bare metal restore from an Archive.

In the course of archiving a recovery point snapshot is created and stored on Amazon Glacier or on a FTP(S) server.  You simply add your Amazon Glacier account or ftp account to SBM and then specify an Archive retention policy.  With FTP you can specify the number of daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly retention points to keep.    SBM will archive and merge archive points as needed so you don't need to manually manage the storage simply adjust the retention policy.

SBM evaluates the archive retention policy after each backup and retains archive points by the following rules:

  • Daily, the last recovery point of the day is archived.
  • Weekly, the last recovery point of the week is archived.
  • Monthly, the last recovery point of the month is archived.
  • Yearly, the last recovery point of the year is archived.

So your backup schedule must be at least daily to archive daily recovery points.

You can view Archive Points along with local recovery points in the Access recovery points window.

The following actions are available for recovery points which only exist in the archive:

  • Retrieve a copy
  • Delete Archive

Archiving can be enabled/disabled for the protected machine in the backup policy.
