Windows Agent — IO Device Error

Symptom

We have an Agent on Windows 2003 host. Sometimes we encounter an error:

Message from host too big. AGENT: Failed to read block 1537572: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

Cause

We have examples of the same issue. On the Windows Host another backup solution worked with CDP Agent and used VSS as well. So, this SW and CDP Agent were in conflict with each other.

Resolution

  1. You use only one backup solution.
  2. You can use both systems. But schedule Backup Tasks so that they do not overlap each other. Leave enough room between the scheduled times for the previous Backup Task to complete and you should have no issue at all.
