Access users

You can access all of the functions you need to manage your users by clicking *Settings* and then *Users* in the Main Menu. You also can access the _Users_ screen directly by adding {{/User/}} to the Backup Manager address in your Web browser address bar, such as [http://10.61.200.31/User/]. Note that the address is case sensitive. 

From the _Users_ screen, you can:
* Add a new user using the *+ New User* button.
* Click the *Actions* icon to display a list of actions that can be completed directly from the _Users_ screen, such as editing, disabling, or deleting the user.

h3. Using the Users page

Several options on this page allow you to:
- *Add a user*. Add a new user by clicking the *+ New User* button. You can define the user properties in the _Create New User_ window. For more information about defining the user properties, see [ServerBackupManager:Add users].
- *Perform a basic search for users*. You can perform a basic search for any user by entering the search criteria in the _Search_ field and clicking the *Search* button.
- *Apply advanced filters to the users list*. You can further customize the view of the users list and apply all possible advanced filter criteria. For more information about advanced search filters, see [ServerBackupManager:Customize the Users list].
- *Clear all filters*. _Appears only when a filter is in use._ To cancel filter settings and show all records in the users list, click the *Clear Filter* button.

h3. Using the Users list

SBM displays all of the user accounts in your system in a list on the _Users_ screen. Click the *>* icon to view additional detail about that account in the Details pane.

You have the ability to organize information, such as filtering out the items you do not want to view. Sort items, limit the number of items displayed per page, and specify which columns you want to display all using the controls on the user list. For more information about the settings available for your user list, see [Customize the Users list|Customize the Users list].

If you have many user accounts in your Server Backup Manager environment, you can use the paging feature to quickly access specific user accounts.&nbsp;Use the&nbsp;*Prev*&nbsp;and&nbsp;*Next*&nbsp;buttons to page forward and backward, or click the&nbsp;*First*&nbsp;and&nbsp;*Last*&nbsp;buttons to jump to the first page or last page.&nbsp;You can also type the number of items you want to view per page in the&nbsp;*Items Per Page*&nbsp;field, and then press&nbsp;*<Enter>*. The maximum number of items per page is 25.

h5. Understanding the columns in the Users list

The user list displays account information using the columns explained in the following table.

| Checkbox | Allows you to select several user accounts at once. |
| State | Displays the current user status. Statuses include *Enabled*&nbsp;(green dot) and *Disabled*&nbsp;(red dot). |
| Username | Displays the unique name used to log in for the user account. |
| Name | Displays the full name of the person associated with the user account. |
| User Type | Displays the type of account associated with the user. User types include *Super-User*, *Power-User*, and *Sub-User*. |
| E-mail Address | Displays the email address associated with the user account. |
| Groups | Displays the total number of groups to which the user account is assigned. _(This column only displays if Group-based Administration is enabled in the_ _[ServerBackupManager:Product Features]_ _screen.)_ |
| Sub-Users | Displays the total number of Sub-User or child user accounts assigned to the administrator or parent user account. |
| Administrators | Displays the total number of administrator or parent user accounts assigned to the Sub-User or child user account. |
| Volumes | Displays the total number of volumes to which the user account has access. |
| Protected Machines | Displays the total number of protected machines to which the user account has access. \\ |
| _Actions_ icon | Allows you to manage the corresponding user account. These options include:
* *Edit User*. Allows you to make changes to the associated user account using the _Edit User_ window. For more information about editing a user account, see [Edit user account properties|Edit user account properties].
* *Enable / Disable*. Allows you to enable and disable the associated user account. If you disable an account, it retains the account properties while preventing active use of that account. You can also choose whether to disable the policies and sub-user accounts also associated with the user account you are disabling. For more information, see&nbsp;[ServerBackupManager:Enable or disable users]
* *Delete User*. Allows you to permanently remove the user account from SBM. For more information about the scope of deleting a user account, see [Delete users|Delete users]. |

h4. List buttons

The buttons at the top of the Users list allow you to work with one or several items selected in the Users list. You must check the box(es) for the item(s) you want to manage before clicking on of the following buttons:
* *Select All/Clear All*. {color:#35383d}Click this check box to select all of the users. Click it again to clear all selected check boxes{color}.
* *Enable Selected*. Allows you to enable or activate one or more selected user accounts.
* *Disable Selected*. Allows you to disable or deactivate one or more selected user accounts.
* *Delete Selected*. Allows you to remove one or more selected user accounts from the Server Backup Manager.

h4. Page navigation

The page navigation pane allows you to divide the list of users into pages by specifying the desired number of items per page. Server Backup Manager provides the following buttons and fields to navigate from one page to another:
* *First*. Opens the first page.
* *Previous*. Opens the previous page.
* *Next*. Opens the next page.
* *Last*. Opens the last page.
* *Items Per Page*. Displays the number of items per page that you want to appear in the Servers list. SBM remembers your settings. By default, SBM displays 10 items per page.&nbsp;*{_}If you want to see a different number of items per page{_}*, type the appropriate number, and then press&nbsp;*<Enter>*. The maximum number of items per page is 25.

h3. Using the Details pane

The Details pane of the _Users_ screen provides detailed information about the user account selected in the user list. To view additional details about a user, click the corresponding *>* icon in the far left column. Depending on the type of user account selected, Server Backup Manager displays up to six tabs. The following tabs are available:
* *Details*. _(All user accounts)_ Displays additional details about the selected user account. For Power-Users and Sub-Users, this tab also displays the total number of groups, administrators (_Sub-User only_), Sub-User accounts (_Power-User only_), volumes, and servers associated with the account.
* *Groups*. _(Power-User accounts only)_ Displays a list of the groups to which the user account belongs.&nbsp;_(This column only displays if Group-based Administration is enabled in the&nbsp;__[ServerBackupManager:Product Features]__&nbsp;screen.)_
* *Sub-Users*. _(Power-User accounts only)_ Displays a list of the Sub-User accounts associated with the user account. You can have Sub-User accounts that do not have associated administrator accounts.

The Details tab of the Details pane provides additional information about the selected user account, such as full name, associated e-mail address, user type, and current state of the account. For Power-User and Sub-User accounts, this tab also displays the total number of groups, administrators (_Sub-User only_), Sub-User accounts (_Power-User only_), volumes, and servers associated with the account. Available information includes the following fields:

h6. Identification block

* *GUID*. Displays an identification number unique to the user account.
* *Username*. Displays the unique name used to log in for the user account.
* *Authentication Type*. Displays when the user authentication is local or using LDAP.&nbsp;
* *Name*. Displays the full name of the person associated with the user account.
* *E-mail Address*. Displays the email address associated with the user account.
* *Language*. Display the default language selected by the user account for any associated servers.
* *User Type*. Displays the type of account associated with the user. User types include *Super-User*, *Power-User*, and *Sub-User*.
* *State*. Displays a green icon when the user account is enabled or displays a red icon when the user account is disabled.

* *Groups*. Displays the total number of groups to which the user account is assigned.
* *Sub-Users*. Displays the total number of sub-user or child user accounts assigned to the administrator or parent user account.
* *Volumes*. Displays the total number of volumes to which the user account has access.
* *Servers*. Displays the total number of servers to which the user account has access.
* *Administrators*. _(Sub-User accounts only)_&nbsp;Displays the total number of administrator or parent user accounts assigned to the sub-user or child user account.

The _Groups_ tab of the Details pane provides a list of the groups to which the selected user account belongs. For more information about the relationship between users and groups, see [ServerBackupManager:Groups].

h5. Sub-Users tab

The _Sub-Users_ tab of the Details pane provides a list of the Sub-User accounts associated with the selected user account. Click the _Detail_ icon for a Sub-User account to view details for the associated Sub-User account. For more information about the relationship between administrator and Sub-User accounts, see [ServerBackupManager:User Types].

h5. Volumes tab

The _Volumes_ tab of the Details pane provides a list of the volumes to which the user account has access. Click the _Detail_ icon for a volume to view details for the associated volume. For more information about the relationship between users and volumes, see [Volumes].

h5. Protected Machines tab

The _Protected Machines_ tab of the Details page provides a list of protected machines to which the user account has access. Click the _Detail_ icon for a machine to view details for the associated machine. Server Backup Manager displays user permissions as icons for each protected machine. The icon and a description of each of these permissions is included in the following table.

h5. Administrators tab

The _Administrators_ tab of the Details page provides the user account information for the administrator of the Sub-User account. Click the _Detail_ icon for the administrator to view details for that user account.
